the “User” isn’t doing anything in particular
this notebook does this periodically (every 30-40min) when the computer is being used.
It’s actually TWO identical HP-Compaq nc6220 notebooks that essentially never issued before the type was withdrawn from service and replaced.
Actually these are several generations old at that company as they are now using Lenovo C2D notebooks and there were two later HP models used before they switched to the current notebook computers
Both have clean installs of XP-SP3 from the HP supplied OS restoration discs. the corporation uses some rather draconian security measures that I didn’t want to deal with so even though they were essentially “virgin systems” (though to stretch the analogy were “old maids”) when I wiped them and started over.
All Drivers are the most recent available from HP
There was a third notebook that I set up exactly the same way at exactly the same time (I had all three on the bench at once) that doesn’t have the problem. unfortunatly that one isn’t available to me anymore
I have the two at home, they will not (ever) be going back to a "user"
except one will go out as a loaner notebook if I can stomp on this bug.
They aren’t the fastest or fanciest, nor were they when shiny new in 2006 hell they are “Dothan” 1.73GHz PentiumM CPU’s and originally came with 40gb HDD’s
Probably one of the last notebooks before HP switched to SATA drives
The fact I’m running a much newer WD 320gb drive in one and a 160gb drive in the other to replace the original 4200rpm 40gb Fujitsu’s…
and that I’ve maxed out the RAM (a whopping 2gb of PC4200 DDR2)
makes them “tolerable”.
It’s just an annoying “bug” I’d like to fix.
The HIDE icons issue is GONE and I’ll admit I should’ve started another topic…
