TSSTCorp CD/DVDW TS-L532M dead after flushed with TR05

Hi,

I have Compaq V2000 with TS-L532M drive. After writing with Sonic/Nero the DVD’s were not readable. Other functions were working properly.
Nero info tool show the DVD drive is Sec-Master.

After some research in the site, I decided to flush the drive with TR05 with Twinfwup.exe. Drive was flushed without any error. But when I restarted computer, the drive was not found. Device mgr shows nothing. I tried removing the HDD and booting with bootable CD. But there was some “PXE” error.

Now the drive is good for nothing. Can anyone please suggest any recovery action? I want to give it a try before buying a new one.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

PXE has nothing to do with the drive, IMO.

Who told you to flash with TR05 nd what was the original firmware on the dirve?

The original firmware was HR04.
Earlier I found found on the forum that, someone was successful after flushing with R6572.

Is your drive CSEL (check the label)? If so, you should have used TU05/07.

From another post:

"In another thread here I found some good advice about fixing misflashed drives and here’s what I did to fix my drive:

  1. I bought a SLIM CD -> IDE adaptor from EBay. This cost 9$ including international delivery (which was a very swift 4 days from Hongkong... I recommend this dealer fully http://stores.ebay.co.uk/TRY2B-BEST )

  2. Hooked the drive to my desktop... the drive was recognized by the desktop BIOS and visible to Windows. In my case I had misflashed the drive with the toshiba bios for InverseCSEL setting instead of the CSEL which was approppriate for my setup! When connecting the slimdrive to your desktop make sure there's nothing else connected to that IDE cable... just to get it 100% right the first time!

  3. Flashed the drive in the desktop computer IN WINDOWS with the latest Toshiba SD-R6572M firmware (TU07), hooked it up to my laptop and ... everything OK! The drive was recognised by both BIOS and windows and works fine.

I made a mistake originally when I thought that since my drive had a HR04 firmware I should use the TR07… which was incorrect I should have used TU07. Dumb of me… It’s of course all about the drive being either CSEL or InverseCSEL which all of you flashers of this TSST Drive should be 100% sure of before flashing anything.

So in my case the TSST TS-L532M crossflashed successfully to Toshiba SD-R6572M using the latest TU07 firmware.

Before flashing your drive, make 100% sure that:

  1. You have the correct drive. For this drive DiscInfo will show Toshiba SD-R6572M in the "extra info" section.

  2. You have the correct firmware. Make sure your drive is set up as a Inverse CSEL (TR07 firmware) or a CSEL (TU07 firmware) before flashing. If you flash the wrong firmware the drive will not be visible in your laptop and you will need to do the trick above with the adapter."

Thanks much for your valuable input.
Yes, CSEL is written on the drive. But Nero Info tool showed the drive as sec master. Hence I flushed it with TR05.

If, the drive has become a master now, I should be able to boot with a bootable CD after removing HDD. But I can’t boot with it. When I put the CD, it is detecting, the orange LED is blinking. Nothing more.

Any idea what is happening?

I’ll try with the adapter and let you know.

Thanks again for your time and advice.

Same thing confused me, however backfire checked my drive label and informed me that TU07 was the appropriate firmware update (apparently the Master/Slave setting is not the important one, rather it is the CSEL versus inverse CSEL (M/S) label)…check for my thread over at rpc1 and you’ll get more info.

Hi,
Many thanks to Beowulf57 for genuine advice. I followed the method (connecting to desktop and flushing with TU07) and successfull. The drive is working fine except writing DVD which was the original problem. Still it is unable to write DVD with Nero.
I’ve not tried with DL DVD yet.

Attached is the log. Please give some idea what possibly is wrong with the drive/software.
