TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-W162Z problems with burning any kind of media

Hi guys,

G’day to everyone and Happy New Year in advance… :flower:

Ok, As stated in many posts before, I have working knowledge of computers and I can follow instructions pretty well. Other than that, I am not that flash with them. I recently started having a problem with my DVD burner and hope somebody here can direct me on the right path.

I have a TSST corp CD/DVDW SH-W162Z dual layer dvd burner in my machine. I also have a number of DVD and CD writing softwares. In the past, I have copied about 150 DVDs and about 20 PS2 games without any problem. In the last couple of weeks, my dvd writer has been unable to write any files on any kind of media. I will put in a dvd or cd to copy using Nero or DVD Shrink and it will read the disc at a diminished speed of about 2,500k (whereas earlier, it used to be around 9,000k). It takes about 25 - 30 minutes to read/analyse the original DVD disk and then it will take the same time to write these files on a blank disc. (It used to be around 12-15 minutes).

Now, it will prompt me with a message stating files copied succesfully or DVD copied succesfully etc. But when I look at the copied DVD it will have no files in it and it will still be blank. I have tried it a number of times with the same result. In essence, it will take about an hour or more to copy a dvd and then the dvd is spat out of the machine with nothing on it even though the burner thinks its done its job.

I am pretty sure I could have described this problem in lesser words if I would have been more experienced in handling these machines. Sorry about that. I have re-installed the drivers (Microsoft/ Windows drivers) and have also re-installed the TS01 firmware. Because the burner thinks its done the job, I have no fault reporting logs to post. If someone wants me to post something using a different method, please advise. I have also recently added a USB 2.0 PCI card in the computer with a couple of firewire ports on it. I had some trouble with the computer initially but everything was finally sorted out. Could this card be conflicting with my DVD drive/burner?

Thank you for reading so far. I am thinking that I might have to just go and get a new dvd burner but I just wanted to be sure that the old one is stuffed before I went out and bought another one.

Looks like dma is not enabled which would cause that. check your settings.

Enable DMA mode first.

The, also try with reliable media like Verbatim & TY!

Hi,

Thanks to ripit and Chef for quick replies…

I went into the BIOS setup but dont know where to go and actiate the DMA settings… Can someone pls post some instructions as to how to turn the DMA settings on… Ty in advance…

Chef, "Try Verbatim or other reliable media."
The problem is that from the start, it fails to recognise the device as a recorder. I can play DVDs and CDs alright but when I want torecord, it says there was a problem or read/analyse the master copy at a slow rate then burns it theoretically without burning the blank media at all in reality. Ihave used Sny, TDK and Verbatim. Same result.

Jack

Please don’t mix up ripping with converting/transcoding or burning.

You seem to have a problem to rip the DVD content to hdd, IMO.
I would use DVDFabHDdecrypter to do that, it is free, ist is powerful and easy to handle.
