TSST Corp TS-L632D will not recognise dvds... ish

Heyhey, i’ve googled a few hardware issues and often found solutions in threads on this site so I thought i’d give the asking a go!

My Acer Aspire 9300 laptop has stopped playing dvds, when I insert a disc the drive makes all sorts of noises before eventually asking me to ‘insert disc’. This happens with all the commercially bought dvds (dvd-r’s don’t want to play either.) i’ve tried except for the Trigger Happy TV season 2 dvd (:eek:) which plays quite happily. CD’s and CDR’s play fine as well.

I’ve tried various solutions suggested such as removing the lower filters in the registry, flashing with the latest firmware (I haven’t crossflashed) and checking for driver updates in windows, all to no avail.
