Trying to identify OEM manufacturer of my BDRW drive in my HP HDX18T Laptop

[qanda]This thread is about the HP HDX X18-1200EO Premium Notebook PC. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]I obtained a spindle of BluRay 2X BR-R 25GB media made by “tw-usa” and the bluray bdrw drive in my HP laptop wont even recognize the discs (although I can play purchased bluray movies fine). I have run into countless dead ends trying to identify the actual maker/model of this drive, with HP customer service “experts” telling me “we cant find that information” and my personal favorite “HP doesn’t sell laptops with Blu Ray burners”…WTF?
Anyway, I have used Nero Info Tool, System information, Device Manager, and IMGBURN to try and gather ANY information about this drive. Here is what I have found so far (the ultimate goal is determining the actual maker/model so I can start hunting for firmware upgrades/hacks)

Device Manger: hp BDRW BR-TD01HA ATA Device
IMGBURN says manufacturer is Pioneer and latest firmware is 1R09
Nero InfoTool 6:

ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated.

It probably is a pioneer drive, what one, I have no clue!

Just to clarify, the hp “model number” listed under device manager brings up ZERO google hits…??? That’s why I am hoping to find a Pioneer model number, if this is in fact a pioneer drive…thanks again

Check what dvrflash -v f: tells you about the drive.

Is that a DOS window command prompt? Sorry to sound dumb…

You can start dvrflash in a Windows cmd.exe window.

It says ‘dvrflash’ is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file.
That’s what I get word for word after I type “dvrflash -v f:” and press enter…

I presume you need to navigate to where you saved the dvrflash program using DOS commands before you try and run it.

Alternatively save it to the root directory of your main drive and call it from there as that makes life a lot easier.

I won’t have Internet access with my laptop until tomorrow night, but I checked out the dvrflash website with my phone, and it looks very promising. Thanks very much for the information, I will post the results tomorrow. Sorry for the confusion earlier, I thought DVRFLASH was some sort of DOS command, not a program to be downloaded and executed. My bad.

OK, DVRFlash returns the following info:
Drive Information:
Description: hp BDRW BR-TD01HA
Firmware Rev: 1R09
Firmware Date: 09/06/16
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Drive is in normal mode.

Additional drive information:
Serial Number: IGDL900368WL
Interface type: SAT
DVR generation: 1007
Kernel type: ID65
Normal type: ID65
Kernel version: 0003

Status: RPC-2 (region locked)
Region: none
Changes: 5 region changes remaining
4 vendor resets remaining
state is ‘Region not set’

This is what is returned when launching program with the command prompt DVRFlash -v f:
When I simply double click the exe of DVRFlash, I get:
Device parameter was not given, detecting all DVR drives:
No DVR drive detected!
Press the Return key to exit

What do I do next with this information? It looks like it IS a pioneer drive, but not DVR series, or what do you guys make of this information? Thanks for any help. BTW, I am using DVRFlash version 2.7.3

While the drive seems to be a native Pioneer drive, there is not much hope to patch the firmware, as the Pionner BD firmwares are scrambled and no firmware is available.
You are not the only one having problems with TW-USA media, have a look here.

This is disappointing…I guess I am stuck with 50 useless blanks :frowning:
Is my only hope for firmware to wait for HP to post it?

The main question is if these disks will burn fine on any drive at all.

Does anybody on MyCE still have the BR-TD01HA drive? They were sometimes installed in old high-end HP / Compaq laptops featuring a Blu-Ray writer. I need a virtual memory dump from it (necessary tool will be provided via PM). Thanks in advance for any possible help!
