Troubleshooting first benq 1620 dvd burn

Hi,

I posted this already in the “newbie” forum, and was told to move it here (but there’s no move option, just copied/pasted…) here’s the original thread to see the responses I have so far…

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=122710

Just got a benq 1620. After much adieu, I am now running b7p9 firmware for this drive.

Tried to make a backup of a DVD, to test the drive mainly. I used Nero 6.0.0.11, and the media I used is TDK 4x (not 8x!) DVD+R (media code=F01). To be safe, I limited the drive to burning at 4x. At 96% into the burn, it gave me a “write error”. DVD+R is a coaster, isn’t recogized by anything.

I’m not really sure where to begin in troubleshooting such an error–I have burned many DVD+R backups on my older drive, but when it comes to troubleshooting I am unquestionably a “newb”. I’ve found several sites that list a TDK 4x as “the most compatible” dvd+r one can use. So I don’t think that is the issue. I also burned a CD with no issues at all.

I’m not sure what part is most important, so this is the entire error message from nero.

Thanks in advance for your patience in answering my question! If you need more info, please ask…

Try different media. You have a medium error. The TDK you have might have a different MID than others here. Use this and post the MID > http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

#3

CMC MAG I believe is the MID.

Other information… it’s an OEM drive that shipped with the G*** firmware, but following instructions on some forum (maybe this one?) I converted it to B7P9.

*Edit: I just googled MID and benq 1620, came up with this:

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?p=798167#post798167

Supposedly this media should work great? (according to above)

#4

I have some CMC MAG E01’s and they burn fine. Can you put the drive in someone you know pc that has a working DVD burner and try it? It’s kind of hard to tell not being right there to look for settings. You might read this and see if you have things set right > http://forums.speedlabs.org/index.php/topic,596.0.html Check your IDE drivers and see if you are using MS drivers in device manager under IDE and UDMA 2 etc…

#5

I’m sorry, I don’t have a second PC to test it on…

I did have a slightly out of date Nero (6.0.1 I think), updating to 6.6… However, from my net surfing it sounds like people have successfully burned this DVD type on nero 5.5-6.5, and everything in between.

#6

Try newer Nero and see if that works. But still make sure you have a look at that link i posted. Read around here in these forums and check things. Not sure what you are burning but if it’s movies try DVD Decripter and DVD Shrink for free. Also CloneDVD2 with Anydvd work great together. They are try B 4 you buy.

#7

use latest nero…take note your cmc mag is just 8x max burn…no overspeeds on this media code…seems TDK is slowing changing over to CMC…i owuld still pick ricohjpn02 for overspeeding…if TDK media really changes to CMC 100%…then no more TDK media for me…:D:D

Okay, I updated nero. Burned the same disc at 8x, and got a different issue. Whole burn went through, then it just kept saying “writing lead off”. I had to just cancel it after 2 hours. The final error was “could not perform end of disc-at-once”, and occurred at 100% … I googled this and found a few other people with this problem. One guy said its an ASPI issue–I checked neroInfoTool, says ASPI is v4.6, and “working properly”. Now what?

PS: I have to restart now because even though nero is closed, the drive is still blinking red (as if its still trying to write the lead off for the dvd?) Really messed up guys…

This exact issue has been posted previously, with no solution! (see below) Any suggestions?

Sorry for posting again, it won’t let me edit my previous post…
