Troubleshooting first benq 1620 dvd burn

vbimport

#1

Hi,

Just got a benq 1620. After much adieu, I am now running b7p9 firmware for this drive.

Tried to make a backup of a DVD, to test the drive mainly. I used Nero 6.0.0.11, and the media I used is TDK 4x (not 8x!) DVD+R. To be safe, I limited the drive to burning at 4x. At 96% into the burn, it gave me a “write error”. DVD+R is a coaster, isn’t recogized by anything (makes sense…)

I’m not really sure where to begin in troubleshooting such an error–I have burned many DVD+R backups on my older drive, but when it comes to troubleshooting I am unquestionably a “newb”. I’ve found several sites that list a TDK 4x as “the most compatible” dvd+r one can use. So I don’t think that is the issue. I also burned a CD with no issues at all.

I’m not sure what part is most important, so this is the entire error message from nero.

Thanks in advance for your patience in answering my question! If you need more info, please ask…

I think you should’ve posted this on the BenQ forum but anyway, is your TDK DVD (check the media code) supported on your firmware? Have you tried a custom firmware with different write strategy ? I’m really not expenrienced with nero logs, but I see some KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR and KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST which are probably causing your benq to fail recording. I don’t know the cause yet

#3

I’m using a 1620 with B7P9 and have used TDK (8x) without any real problems. Perhaps it would be a good idea to update Nero to 6.6.0.5 - Sorry can’t think of anything else.

I consider myself a newb, so I posted here :stuck_out_tongue:

What is a custom firmware with a different write strategy?

I can’t find a site that lists compatible media for 4x speed DVD+R’s. There’s alot for 16x and 8x DVD+R’s…

I don’t think they’re modded thought, not sure. About your media, check BenQ forum/search to see if any other users has that problem. That’s all I can say, since I own a nec :stuck_out_tongue:
