Trouble with playing Audio CD's in car

I'm a newbie with digital music and having a problem with my car multidisc CD player when playing homemade CD-R's.

About half way through my homemade CD-R's I start getting dropouts which get increasingly worse as the CD playing progresses. At first I thought it might be that particular CD-R until I noticed they all my homemade CD-R's behaved the same way. Commercial audio CD's play fine all the way through.

I then suspected my homemade CD-R's were somehow corrupted but I play them on my home CD player and they are perfect.

I'm a little confused and need some advise. I can change out the multidisc CD player for a refurbished unit @~$250, but I'm not yet confident that I understand the problem. I'm using Verbatim DataLifePlus media.

First of all, try using CD-R's made by another manufacturer (Fuji, Maxell). Secondly, lowering writing speed might solve the problem.

The only way I was able to get my car stereo to play CD-R was to use Verbatim Pastel CD's & burn with a CD writer.

Since then I've established that Verbatim Super Azo are also good for me.

Thanks for the response. Sounds like a reasonable action plan, trying a different media. I'm still confused,though, why the dropout of sound occurs more frequently on the second half of the CD-R.

If the trouble discs are more than 74 min, try some that are less than 74. Your player will likely prefer either Cyanine discs or Phthalocyanine (sp?).
So the best 2 types to test with are TY and Ritek. Burn them at 32x max.

The first thing I do when CD player shopping is feed it one of my CD-Rs. If it won't play, I don't buy it! My alpine likes CD-Rs even though it says it doesn't officially support CD-Rs, and it plays them just fine. Most of the dang changers don't play them very well, I dunno why. The best CD-R players are pioneer and sony car stereos, it seems the cheapest ones are the best!!! The Alpine stereos play them OK, but it has to be a decent burn or it won't play. I bought the Alpine because of the sound quality though, it's a schweet sounding deck. I dunno, it might just be better to get a better CD player. :iagree:

Have you tried using a music cd-r. My stock Acura deck doesn't seem to like TY cd-rs (Fuji). It has no problems playing Prodisc cd-rs, but TYs will skip and stop playing. I bought some Maxell music discs (MIJ - TY) and they play perfectly.

Using very good CD-R (maybe CD-R Audio) and lowering the burning speeds is the way to go.
