Trouble with blank media & burning to harddrive (Samsung SH-S183A / TS-H653A)

[qanda]This thread is about the Samsung SH-S183A / TS-H653A. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]I have been burning dvds for awhile now with no problems. I have dvdfab which worked great until recently when I downloaded the new verisons. First 5110 was not recongizing blank media, also trouble burning it to the hard drive about an hour for each dvd. Now I downloaded the lastest version 5120 which burns to the harddrive alot faster, recognizes blank media again, but will not play on a standalone player.

copy succesful
burned completed succesful

just wont play

I am begging for some help I have been stumped for a month now, and I do not believe it is my computer, something is going on with dvdfab platinum?

Welcome to the forum

What brand of media are you using, and what’s your burn speed set to in DVDFab?

#3

Ok I have been burning TDK with no problems and this might sound a little silly but where do I find out what speed it is set at? This burning thing is new to me, I have been burning for only a few months now not sure where to set the speed at on dvdfab.

#4

You’ll find the write speed settings under “Common Settings” in Fab. The interface has changed a little since I last used Fab, so you may have to poke around a bit to find the setting.

The fact that you haven’t altered it yourself makes me think it may be burning at the disc’s max speed. When you find the setting, lower the burn speed to 8x.

If that doesn’t help, I’d suggest different media like Verbatim

(TDK don’t make their own media, they just put their name on discs that were made by different manufacturers - some good, some bad).

#5

I have been under common setting and hit default, but when I poke around a little I see know where, I can change the setting. From 16x to 8x. Is this a speed for read or write? wait I found it, I changed it under write speed. was that correct?

Thanks for the reply

#6

Yep, you need to change the speed under “write speed” :iagree:

Were you offered the option to change the write speed with a drop-down list of speeds? You may need a blank disc in the drive for all the available speeds to show in the drop-down list.

#7

Yes it was a drop down list, and I am burning another dvd now to see if that was the problem. I do thank you for your help, just hope this works

#8

This did not fix the problem, the player say disc error, why would the tdks work then not work. So you recommend verbatim? 16x?

I have the Dell version of that drive (the TS-H653A), and 16x Verbatim discs work beautifully with it. :iagree:

Regarding the TDKs working then not working - aside from often variable quality, the fact that Fab was burning at the highest speed can mean it was hit or miss whether they worked on your player - hence some working, some not.

If you try Verbatim discs, again set the burn speed to 8x for best results.

However, you might like to have a read of this post as well.

#10

Ok now what, I just drove 58 miles to a best buy to buy verbatim dvd-r 16x and I’m still getting disc error on my player?! I am so confused on what to do, should I delete dvdfab and try an old version of it, but how do I even do that? I did reset dvdfab to 8x also.?

#11

I just found my burn engine should that be changed? It is set to VSO what ever that means?

#12

might want to try saving to iso file and burning with imgburn (its free), been reading that the vso burn engine in fab has been a lil buggy lately, not for all, but for some…might be worth a shot

#13

So I would just go into my common setting and change the burn engine to imgburn? And does this mean I have to burn it again to my hard drive?

#14

dont have to set burn engine to anything…do you have imgburn installed on your pc? you can just save the output iso to your hard drive then burn it thru imgburn.

#15

I have never installed imgburn on my pc, but when I go to dvdfab, common setting, write, burn engine, a drop down tab as imgburn as an option.

Does this mean it was already downloaded? In the drop down tap there shows 3 options VSO burn engine, nero rom, and imgburn. Thanks for the reply,

#16

nope you would have to go here… http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download and download it.

you dont need to do anything with your common setting if youre going to use imgburn on its own, not thru fab. To the right of the Target window on the dvd fab main frame are two icons, one is a folder, the other is a peice of paper (i guess, lol) with a dvd on it. Click the dvd icon and then click ok, and it will save the iso file to your hdd, not send it to your burner to burn

then you can run imgburn and insert the iso file

you could also give this a look if you wanted to use dvdfab and imgburn together (thx troy512 for enlightening me)

set ImgBurn auto write speeds
http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=4249

set dvdfab to use ImgBurn engine and recommended speed
http://www.dvdfab.com/docs/index.php/Main/SettingsWrite

then copy and burn as usual
