More media report about cracked SafeAudio...

I already saw this article this morning when I woke up. An article in a big dutch newspaper (De Volkskrant) also reports about our website and the cracked SafeAudio. A small summary:

Musiccompany BMG confirmed to the dutch newspaper "de Volkskrant" that the SafeAudio protection from Macrovision, as used on the latest Volumia album "Puur", has been cracked.

A piece of software was adjusted, resulting in the ability to rip the album to the harddisk. As a result, BMG now is thinking about removing the protection again on re-presses of the album.

BMG America announced earlier this week to start testing another protection method known as MediaCloQ from Sunncomm. When trying to rip cd's protected with it is being diverded to the recordcompany's website, where is being verified if the ripper indeed owns the album. It is stated that this protection is not yet cracked ....

Some of you might remember the first copy protection try-out in Germany, with software from Midbar. It resulted in a lot of complaints about the cd's not playing in older players or car players.

Apparently the Israelian company improved it's technique, and Sony tested it late 2000 with 2 albums (ten thousand copies each). According to Midbar, no complaints this time.

Anyway, the whole story (in Dutch) can be found here
