[qanda]This thread is about the LG GSA-H73N. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]Hi,

Long time lurker, first time poster here.

So, I made the step to upgrade from an ATA based PC, to a more modern PC featuring SATA drives (Dell 530, meh).

My old Sony 820A burned DL media without probs and this time for the LG H73N I bought several Verbatim 2.4x MIS media.

At my first try, Nero ejected the disc after 1-2 minutes of “burning” with the error listed below. Funny thing, I inserted the disc again, started burning and now it’s at 67%… Even though the media is rated 2.4x, Nero’s only speed is listed at 4x.

I’d really appreciate any tips or recommendations based on the log below, thank you!
Josh

Until I figure out how to edit the post, I’ll have to reply with the latest news:

Process completed 100% yet the disc is unplayable (on other system also) and couldn’t verify data at all (drive kept going back and forth).

I’ve upgraded Nero to 8.3.6.0 and it still lists the highest writing speed as 4x, no way to select 2.4x as the media indicates.

Do I need another drive? Also open to ideas on which drive to get in worst case that the drive is bad, or what to do with the remaining 49pcs of MIS Verbatims.

#3

Here’s another update:

ImgBurn successfully burned the second DL media at 2.4x, it even verified the written data.

What I still see as an issue, compared to older system, is the fact that data transfer from the written DL disc is much slower:

  • It takes 2 minutes to transfer a 350mb file from the DL onto the HDD.
  • VSO Inspector, Nero Disc Speed both report data transfer rates under 3x (2.54x average) - is this normal?

I’m starting to go towards ordering a newer PIONEER DVR-115DBK drive in case it’s the drive’s fault in this whole situation, but I’m just not entirely sure about that.

Appreciate any help, Josh
