TR07 or TU07 for Toshiba SD-R6572M

I have a TSST TS-L532M (Toshiba SD-R6572M) in my IBM T30 laptop which has two IDE channels (hard drive on one, dvd burner on the other)…so I shouldn’t end up with a toasted WinXP through IDE conflicts, just don’t want to mess up the dvd burner.

My problem is that although the SD-R6572M is noted as CSEL on the case, the drive is set to Master (as per Nero Infotool). Info I have so far is conflicting as some posts indicate that TU07 should be used with CSEL (usually slave) and others that TR07 should be used with inverse CSEL (usually master).

So which firmware upgrade should I use (drive has HR04 at present and I am getting burning errors with Verbatim DVD+R DL disks): TU07 or TR07?

Thanks for any help,
Beowulf57

Can you post a burn log or tell us exactly what the errors are?

Would you give ImgBurn a try to see if we can take Nero out of the equation.

I have used that programme before…and since I have also had the same burn problems with CDClone (that has successfully burned DVD+R DL, but with a number of coasters as well), I think we’re barking up the wrong tree. Since another burner software had these problems before I even tried Nero. When CDClone had errors half way through the burn, I tried Nero and was successful…then a few discs later, the problem came up again.

Have you an answer to my original query re: TU07 versus TR07?

Thanks for your help,

Beowulf57

If you are having problems approx half way through, then your problem is most likely the layer break, therefore would be a problem with the way you ripped it to your hard drive.

This tells me that your drive doesn’t like the media you have chosen & if it wasn’t for the MID of that media, I would say to use Verbatim Dvd+R DL Made in Singapore. So we come back to the firmware & the age of the drive & I am sorry that is were I am stumped because you say you have tried both & I couldn’t find anything on it at The Firmware Page. One thing I can tell you is you should probably update your Nero. Hopefully there is somebody knowledgeable on these drives that can help you.

Use Imgburn.

You cannot just crossflash with another firmware which is not for your drive, especially with an slimtype drive!

I’m a bit confused now: what I have read indicated that this firmware was for the SD-R6572M and Discinfo 1.6.1 from rpc1 indicates that my TS-L532M is a Toshiba SD-R6572M?

Please illuminate on this issue.

Thanks,

Beowulf57

Problem solved: Backfire has checked the drive label (CSEL) and informed me that TU07 is the appropriate firmware upgrade.
Thanks to all and I’ll post results.

Flashing was successful and the drive now shows Ultra DMA Mode 5 (was Multi word DMA Mode 2), CPU usage at 1x: 6% (was 62%), and a Burst rate of 26MB/s (was 13.8). Not a fast drive by any stretch of the imagination compared to recent performance levels, but still an improvement.

Thanks again and I’ll see if my burning woes decrease after updating Nero.

Beowulf57

Nope, HDD shows UDMA5 and the burner UDMA2.

Correct: Okay…I sorted out the odd UDMA listings: my T30 configuration panel shows that the device bay (Toshiba SD-R6572M) is using IRQ 15, which is the secondary IDE channel and in UDMA2…the hard drive is on the primary IDE channel (IRQ 14) and in UDMA5 as you would expect. Problem was simply that the Nero Infotool misreports adapter 3 as the primary IDE channel and shows the Toshiba attached to that channel…

Thanks,
Beowulf57

Update: after firmware update, successful burning single and dual layer, with Nero, CDClone and Imgburn.
