Totally unusable DVD

[qanda]This thread is about the HP (APJ 10-PK) DVD+R LightScribe Drive. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]Hi, guys!
It’s been a long time since I last posted.
So here’s the thing: I bought an HP DVD+R Media and decided to burn
a few avis. Using Nero Burning Rom I chose the DVD-Rom (ISO)
option but when I dragged one of the files (above 2 GB) it said the file was
larger than 2 gigs and couldn’t be stored in ISO file system. It offered me
UDF instead. So I closed every single window and decided to give it another
shot, this time using the DVD-ROM (UDF) option in Nero Burning ROM.
It struck me that during the burning of the compilation it showed the
current file being written was cover.jpg. I do have a cover but c’mon,
it’s not possible to be written for 3 minutes! After which it showed
the subtitles being written again for too long time.
The end result was totally unreadable media.
Is it the UDF option the problem? I’ve never used it before.

There are two possibilities actually:

  1. DMA is disabled in your computer, and DMA must be enabled absolutely for DVD burning

  2. The HP DVD is a so low quality disc that the burner is not able to complete the writing, and the result is a coaster.

As first thing I suggest to check DMA and enable it if needed

The DMA mode is was on. I just remembered I installed DVD Decrypter yesterday. Could that be of any matter?

For what I know installing DVD Decrypter is perfectly safe, and it shouldn’t cause such issues.

Excluding the DMA, it remains to check the disc. Can you try to burn a different disc (I suggest a Verbatim)? If this solve, then your drive don’t like HP media

That’s the first time this has ever happened with HP.
But I’ll try another media or same media different stuff
to be burned.

I tried Verbatim DVD but in ISO mode (I split the large file into RAR volumes) and everything was fine.
It burned like a charm.
Thanks for your help, geno888!

You’re welcome
