Apologies in advance for making a long/boring/stupid post etc...
I'm a total newbie to 'proper' CD copying, ie getting round protection and making identical copies etc. In the past I've used a few programs to copy CDs, Nero, WinOnCD being the two most used programs, simply by copying the files from one CD to another. Obviously this was back when CDs had little or no copy protection on them.
Now I find myself faced with loads of games I want to copy, mostly for network gaming purposes and also for backup. I know that there are several types of copy protection, and in total honesty I never actually thought about searching the net for websites and forums such as CDRFreaks for help. Well here I am! I'm currently using BlindWrite to copy CDs, but I'm stil running with all the default settings and I'm still not 100% sure about Subcodes and DAO Cooked modes, hence the fact that I'm still using default settings and end up with identical copies of CDs that don't properly work.
As a newbie I'm pretty much lost amongst all the info and programs available for working out types of copy protection and the methods used to work around this. So can anyone be a good Samaritan and point me in a nice vague general direction of where to begin? Basically I'm looking for a) how to tell what type of protection are on CDs and b) what settings to add/alter etc in BlindWrite and Nero to work around the protection.
I'm more than happy to spend time browsing through this forum but it'd be great if I could hav a little guidance on where to look for "beginner's guides" so to speak. Granted, I'm in the Newbie Forum and therefore I'm looking through it which I should be doing (cos I'm a newbie n all ) to find some answers.
Thanks to anyone and everyone who can help me out, and once again apologies for boring you all to death with probably yet another request for help for a newbie
