The player has some rabid fans and dedicated supporters. Mostly they are folks who have not seen a high-end video processor and de-interlacer before. Keeping this as short as possible, what Toshiba is doing is applying edge enhancement and high freq. boost to create the impression of a sharper image. This is generally most effective on certain types of content, and on smaller screens, (<50"). Many people feel the Toshiba produces a better image with it’s special processing turned off.
It’s entirely possible to get a picture with more true detail and sharpness with a properly calibrated monitor and a quality player like an Oppo, and the Oppo 980 is in the same price range.
