Remote quit working, universal remote works but not on volume. Direct tv remote works but not on volume??? Forums indicate many have problem but no toshiba resolution??????
Is the remote that quit the OEM ? If yes then did only the volume quit or all functions ?
Universal remotes cover a wide range .If either the reomte or the TV differ in age the codes may not be correct. Many devices will sort of work with more than one code listed for that product.
Do the search for code function & see if you don’t find at least a couple that work.
Last does the Universal Mute the TV ?
bow:not oem no remote works, directtv, toshiba nor universal on volume nor mute. Tried all codes manual on tv and on direct tv??? TV and TV remote same age.
You might need to contact Toshiba or else the place where you bought it as something could have gone out on the TV
If you can order a new Toshiba remote then that’s what I would do.
If this new remote fails to control the volume the problem should be in the TV set .
There might be a method to do a reset. You might have to get that from Toshiba but you might be able to find it on the internet. That might not help but It could.
All universals should work power, volume and chanel especially for something as mainline as Toshiba.
You have a TV problem!

My thoughts exactly.
Sounds like a faulty TV to me.
I’m inclined to think the problem is the TV.
I never got it clear if the OEM Toshiba remote completely quit controling all functions .
Apparently the universal works some functions but not mute & volume. So the IR receiver should be working on the TV. This would mean if the problem is in the TV it would have to be in the volume circuit only.
Also can the volume be controled from the TV’s own controls ?
Some TV’s will work with a close code in the universal remote but it might not work all functions. That is still a possibility & the reason I suggested getting an OEM Toshiba remote for the exact model TV. Surely a remote would cost less than having the TV serviced. Then if the new remote doesn’t work the OP could be sure the problem is the TV. The decision to get the Toshiba remote would be based on cost.
If the OP will read the Universal remote manual there is usually a way to search for a code . The OP needs to find & try more than one code this way. Most of the time when checked there will be some codes that are not in the manuals list for an electronic device.
