I have a toshiba tecra 8000 laptop ,running XP and it will not read cd’s, especially cd’s with mp3’s on it, when I put a cd into the drive I constantly get a message , “please insert cd”
the fact that the cd is in the drive does not seem to register.
any help appreciated,
Could you start your system with a Windows 98 rescue diskette and then try in MS-Dos if a cdrom is recognised ?
Could also be poor media…some drives are picky when it comes to that. But I suggest trying Belvedere’s suggestion first (he knows more about this than I do )
thanks for the replies, the cd drive works fine for data cd’s it just seems to be music ones that cause the problem and too further confuse things it will work with a cd now but in five minutes it will be unable to read the same disc.
