Hi guys, I have a Toshiba R6012 DVD-RW/CD-RW drive and it has just stopped working after a grand total of 1 week. I've been told my warranty is invalid. So I am searching desperately for any solutions.
The drive is installed in a Sony Vaio GRZ660 laptop and shows up on bootup and in my computer. When a CD is inserted it whirrs and whirrs and clicks and whirrs some more but will not read anything. I've tried CD's, DVD's, originals, copies, everything and nothing reads anymore. I'm pretty much resigning myself to the fact that it's broken. But if anyone can suggest anything that would be excellent.
Also I was wondering if theres a way to get a laptop which only has a broken CD/DVD drive (such as mine at the moment) to boot up from anthing other than C:? I want to reformat the damn thing and start again but I've tried USB floppy's and CD's and neither will let me boot from them.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
