“but players are scarce” Yea so are the people willing to buy them

You got that right. When DVD players can be bought for $30, who in their right mind is going to rush out to get a $500 HD-DVD player? Those with more money than brains, that’s who. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for HD, just not the restrictive DRM or insane prices. When DVD Jon cracks the copy protection and the prices come down a bit, then I’ll take the plunge.

I assume you mean a standalone player. I don’t have one of those for any media except VHS. Pc sized ill look at when it’s under $100 and media well under $10. Drm im not worried about. Has not stopped me so far.

If it stops people from using something the way they want to I have no doubt it will just get returned to Bestbuy. A reason I don’t see them so quick to jump onto the band wagon. They know the returns a coming. BIGTIME

“You got that right. When DVD players can be bought for $30, who in their right mind is going to rush out to get a $500 HD-DVD player?” Youy get what you pay for. Most $30 and cheap DVD players won’t six months maybe a year (I have gone through four of them). I rather pay £200+ on a DVD player knowing it is going to last. My last player cost me £400/$700 and it has been worth very penny.

as oppose to the linked article, the only title that i see in my area’s Best Buy is Serenity. The box looks a lot smaller then regular DVD box. It is 2.5cm shorter in length and has the same width as a regular DVD box. And actually feel a little less sturdy than a regular DVD box.

a friend and I dismantled an HD-A1 in order to find out what made it tick, and were intrigued to learn that inside the drive is a standard IDE unit. Also inside is a USB flash drive on a daughter card: http://geekswithblogs.net/lorint/archive/2006/04/21/75795.aspx
