Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-M1612 SCSI problem

Just recently, my DVD-ROM (Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-M1612 SCSI) has been giving me the following error message when trying to play DVD’s.

Disk is not formatted
Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows.

The weird thing is, that it doesn’t happen with all DVD’s. It only happens with ones that I’ve rented.

Any idea what could be causing this message and how I can (hopefully) get it to work again?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have a similar problem, but it only happens when I’m trying to read CD-ROMS. I can’t figure out how to fix it. I’ve tried multiple drivers and re-installs. Let me know if you figure it out.

First off, it is not a SCSI drive. It’s EIDE/ATAPI. What rev are you running?

Correct, it’s not SCSI.

Booktyped DVDs will be denied to be recognized depending on the current firmware…
