I have an sdm1102 dvd rom that will play some movies and won't play others. it always recognizes cd's . Sometimes it will recognize the dvd if I open and close the tray several times. Wife just purchased 3 new movies and only 1 will be recognized . We have never really used the drive for movies untl just recently . Di. I am a novice at this stuff but have installed new ASPI, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drive and neither helped. I have tried two software programs (ATI DVD Player and H+ player) with same results. Toshiba does not provide any new drivers on there site and says the one in Windows database should work. I downloaded the 1426 firmware to try and flash but when I put the floppy in and restart the comp ( as instructed in the read me file) i keep getting an invalid system disk message and I have checked and and the file are on the floppy. Cotacted Toshiba tech support and got this reply
" If your DVD-ROM is of the IDE variety, then this is most likely a problem with your Windows bus mastering / HDD controlling drivers. Make sure that your DVD-ROM drivers are installed properly (they should be provided if they are needed - also check the manufacturer's website for the latest drivers). If possible, reinstall the Windows bus mastering drivers by going into "device manager" (control panel => system => device manager tab) and deleting the entries in the "Hard Disk controllers" tree" Reboot and Windows should detect new drivers for your bus mastering (Windows CD required).
If you DVD-ROM is SCSI, then an reinstall of the latest SCSI drivers might be in-order.
Be warned, messing with Windows settings is always hazardous to the health of your computer =)
Have not tried this yet cause it seems kind of drastic . I am running Win 98 se. Before I go out and buy a new drive or a stand alone player Any thoughts, suggestions or comments would be appreciated
