Who shops for DVDr media here, where do you shop and what do you get?

this might be a stupid question but I asked it anyway

Well my fellow Canadian…

Many places in the T.O area that you could check out…

For one www.tigerdirect.ca or www.canadacomputers.com

pluss I suggest looking at this site for a list of vendors in Canada…

http://www.computers-canada.com

Media depends on the burner… Ricoh … Ritek are the big ones… Pine is poor media… Cicero is bad media… well it writes no problem, but wont last more then a few years. (learned the hard way with CDRs)

For the time being i’m using Maxell 4x DVD-R media cause it was on sale at Future Slop. $29.99 for 25

Any TY disc available in TO? I heard that the maxell might be TY or CMC or something. BTW does a TDK dvdr’s exist?

fellow ppl shor media at www.blankmedia.ca. The store is located in waterloo or they can ship it to u.

Yes. there actually are TDK media. But they only produce DVD-R with their own media code (TTG01) if i´m not wrong. Their DVD+R are made by Ricoh (RICOHJPNR01). I once had a few DVD-R, and they produced quite good burning results.

Read these forums but from what I’ve gathered all the Fuji media (made in Japan) they sell at radioshack should be TY… they are hella expensive they come out to like $3CDN per disc, also from these forums (reading is so great  ) it seems maxell make their own media and its great quality as long as its made in japan, wallmart sells 15 disc spindles

I actually got a maxell disc, thought it was yudens. Its a 4x DVD-R maxell, got it on sale at compusmart for like cdn$7.99 for a 5 piece pack with regular size jewel case.

media code is :

Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:MXL RG02]

Disc Type : [DVD-R]
Manufacturer ID : [MXL RG02]
Manufacturer Name : [Hitachi Maxell Ltd.]
Disc Application Code : [Unrestricted Use : Consumer Purpose]
Recording Speeds : [1x , 2x , 4x] (8x Cannot Be Detected)
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4,489.3MB = 4.38GB (4.71GB)]

[DVD Identifier - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com]

theres a uji made in japan for cdn$6.99 for 5 pack. I was told it was in the best buy flyer, you can price match it at staples and if your lucky you can get it for cdn$4.01

does anybody have any idea when dl media will be available? (fellow canadian)

thats pretty cheap

I pick up media at 2 locations downtown Toronto, depending on price/availability…
http://www.filtechcomputer.com/product/default.asp
and
http://www.sonnam.com/parts.asp

Both are located on Spadina within walking distance of each other.
I usually buy Ritek +/- R

Has anyone ever found Taiyo Yuden? What’s the best price?

Taiyo-Yuden at Sonnam for $2.30/disc. DVD-R 4x. DVD-R 8X is $2.99/disc.

GTZ

BTW does a TDK dvdr's exist?

i saw them at costco…

Yeah blankmedia.ca has TDK, Taiyo Yuden etc. Prices are excellent and shipping is very reasonable. When you work it out it is cheaper with the shipping than most local computer outlet stores. I’ve been buying from them for the past year with nothing but good experiences  I hate driving in this city !! Taiyo 8x is like $1.00 a disk now.

You can get some TYG01 at walmart right now. they are branded as Maxell DVD-R 4x 10 pack with jewel cases (made in japan) $13.27 canadian. The 15 pack spindles of maxell dvd-r 4x are different , they are MXL RG02

Anyone know where i can get some TY dvd+r , without having to order online ? and at a reasonable price.

cya

Well Future Shop just got in DL Verbatims, at least mine did, and 40 bux for a 3 pack, WOW talk about expensive!
