My toshiba worked fine untill few days ago.

Scaned few cd’rs and got the same result. I was geting linear graphs before.

Using firmware 1816 RPC-1.

I suggest to try to scan some pressed media and see how they perform. It could be that your drive needs to be cleaned, but it can be a software problem as well. Or a wrongly mounted cable… or…or…

You get my point, let’s see first how it does with pressed media. If they work fine, we known there’s no software issue and we can search further!

This is a scan from pressed cd on my toshiba drive

#4

So, my toshiba is not well :frowning:

#5

OK, now i know what is the problem !
DMA is off for this drive, but i cannot turn on the dma on.
When i try to change it to DMA if available it still remains on PIO mode.
What can i do ?

#8

Hmmm no DMA enabled? What hardware platform are you running on?

If your mainboard is based on a Via, SiS or Ali chipset, you need to install chipset drivers. If you have an Intel or NVidia based mainboard, then you’d better use the MS drivers.

Running of WinXp+sp1.
P3 666, 392 memory
Via chipset.

The strangest thing, that the dma was enable few days ago.
Maybe installing pxengine 507 could cause this problem ?

I can hardly imagine PXEngine to be the cause.

I’d suggest to surft to http://www.viaarena.com and get the latest drivers there…
