Toal Newbie

I am totally new to this - so if you guys could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

I have the following problem:

DVD Rom = Hitachi GD-8000
DVDRW = IDE1008 (Firmware Revision 0055) 8x
AMD 1700+
512 Ram
40Gb HD

When I try to copy a DVD to the DVDRW using Nero 6, it is painfully slow, to the point that it sometimes hangs. Also, no matter what DVD disc I use (x4) it always copies at x2 speed.

What can be done to burn at 4x or 8x?

Any help appreciated.

hy and welcome @cdfreaks,

-is dma enabled? (check the settings using nero infotool under configuration)
if not enable dma and look what happens.
-have you defraged your hd, a fragmented hd can be the reason for slow burnings.
-what medias are u using? (MID), are they supported?
-try to update to the latest firmware 0059
-what nero version are u using? update to the latest (
-have u tried other software eg. dvddecrypter.
-what motherboard are u using? have you installed any nvidia ide drivers? if yes
uninstall them and try it with the M$ standard drivers.

Thank you for your reply - it seems I have alot of reading to do.

By DMA I assume you mean Direct memory access?

I am not sure what you mean by MID?

MY PC was bought from PC World it is a HP Pavilion. I am not usre about the Motherboard.

I think I have made the stupid mistake of assuming you chuck in a DVD and the DVDRW just burns it like a CD.

Hmmmmm… I will get back to you.

Thanks for your help.

And don’t forget the Force ASPI layers as well.
