Made in China is very likely. One of my friends in Seoul who runs a DVD recording site often stays in China and Plextor drives along with LG, Pioneer... and other maker drives are easily found there. Sometimes before any other place, sometimes just engineering samples or samples for distributors.
God bless the amazing warranty and support that is the KING Plextor!
I don't think such a warranty policy is special. Intel, LG, Samsung, Lite-On, Dell, BenQ... they all have "onsite" replacement policy in some countries. Sometimes they deliver replacements first by DHL or other services or by themselves in person (most likely with some big names), and ask the customers to deliver the old ones later.
Lite-On in South Korea has similar policy. Is Lite-On also KING Lite-On?
Personally, I would like Plextor to lower the retail prices by cutting cost on services and bundle applications. And also by using cheaper components. And spending less time and personell on answering via emails and phone which I think is mostly waste of very precious resources. But Plextor is like I-River. I-River charges 2x more than Apple and most others but everyone praises I-River's "great" service and talk little about the high prices. Whether the extra US$200 for a US$400 product is worth the extra service... is another issue that is very rarely discussed. However, the very first-generation I-River products were good and cheap at the same time so I bought two of them.
Strangely, I see no person in the Lite-On forum or anywhere else who praises the same level of warranty services.
