Hey all,
What’s the best burn for the buck out there right now?I don’t really need dual layer burning,but it would be nice I guess.

Looks like there’s not going to be another firmware upgrade for my 411s past the current FS0k firmware…and my Verbatim(MCC004) disks are not happy about that.My KProbe scans went from 15-20 PI/0-1 PIF that I usually get on MCC002 and MCC003 to 1000-1500 PI/25-50 PIF on MCC004’s.NOT GOOD!!Sucks too…I had very little problems with this burner and bitsetting.I’d like to stick with Liteon just because I’m familiar with messing with write strategies and all that …any suggestions?

well if its +r’s your burning, then i suggest the benq 1620. best i’ve found on the + side of the shop.

@BlackstarPowers
you can upgrade your drive to a 811S with this utility: http://codeguys.rpc1.org/utilities/EEPROM_Utility-2.0.7.rar

then simply flash with a 811S firmware: http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares/811S.HS0K-HS0P-HS0Q-HS0R.patched-rs.rar
and test your “new” drive.
if you can’t get happy, it’s will be time for a new one.

chok0,
I was trying to do that this morning.When I click the “4x1S->811S[drive]” button,nothing changes at all…still a 411S with my FS0K firmware.From looking at the firmware for the 811S,it appears it can’t do MCC004 media either anyways…

:frowning:

after you’ve applied the patch you must flash your drive with a 811S firmware. the eeprom tool doesn’t do this automatically.

and MCC004 media code isn’t present in the firmware, but you can add it with MediaCodeSpeedEdit: http://home.arcor.de/ala42/MCSE/

Hmm…I took the 811s patched firmware you linked me to and re-named MCC001 to MCC004 and patched with that and rebooted.After rebooting sure enough I havea 811S now…burned a DVD though and KProbe is still showing the same poor scans.Do I need to actually import the MC004 media code into the firmware somehow?If so,how??

Thanks btw for helping out!

you can’t simply rename the write strategie to MCC004, as the firmware doesn’t know it.

After I posted my last message,I went and impoted that code in with MediaCodeSpeedEdit…looks like this:

/Burned another disc…still crappy scans…and would only burn at 2.4x…time to do some more reading i guess :slight_smile:

I’m lost…lol.Here’s what I have when I Export Media Codes for the firmware I’m messing with.I’m using MCC004 DVD+R media(which is listed):

:confused:

EDIT
I took the media code for MCC004 out from another higher end Liteon drive and imported it into the patched 811S firmware…forgot that part.I didn’t know where else to get the MCC004 media code from…after reading those links I get the impression I need to use word wrapping and hex editors rather than just importing what was put on my clipboard?If so,I have no clue how to do that.arg…
