Let me give an example :
There's this movie.. I think it was called Almost Famous.
It has been released on DVD not once , not twice.. no THREE times. All three times in a different format. Some have extra's , some more interviews. One of course one is more expensive than the other.
Now last week i purchased a dvd (Below Special Edition) and was kinda wondered why there are so many versions of the same movie. I know it's a big marketing trick , but it sucks.
I purchased the Special edition just becuase that particular one has a DTS track on it. The normal hasn't. I really don't care about the extra's , but i want superiour audio and image quality , the emphasis on audio.
So , i waited for The Lord of the Rings Extended Platinum edition , purchased Saving Private Ryan in the States (no DTS on european version) and bought amazingly expensive criterion edition of Chasing Amy , simply because i wanted to know everything about that movie. Same goes for SuperBit , of which i have the 5th Element , Men In Black and MIB 2. Or special versions like X-Men 1.5
And of course , the sacrifice is that i have to wait a freaking long time before my precious movies are in that format. I'm still waiting for The Matrix in DTS track (the nowadays released format SUCKS) and i think i'm in wait forever.
I hope to purchase the LOTR 2 also in special extended version sometimes next month.
Do you think before you buy a dvd or do you don't care that much for quality ?
