I’ve been putting off an upgrade for some time now but a recent hardware failure finally made me bite the bullet and get a new system.

Here’s what I went for.

Intel Core i7 860 Quad Core Processor - Socket LGA1156
ASUS P7P55 LX Motherboard
Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64bit
8GB DDR3 Ram
Twin SATA 2 1TB Hard drives (in a RAID 0 striping configuration for speed)
ATI Radeon HD5770 Graphics Card
Samsung SH-B083L Combined Blu-ray ROM & DVD Writer
NZXT Hush Silent Brushed Aluminium ATX Midi Tower Case in Black with a 700W Power Supply

In addition I’ve cannibalised the old machine and carried over the following.

Twin 300GB Maxtor hard drives
NEC ND-4550A DVD Writer
Sony DDU1613 DVD ROM Drive

Haven’t carried out any benchmarks as such but I do a lot of video re-encoding and re-did a disc that had taken 2h 45m on the old machine.

Finished in 31 minutes on the new rig so I’m well pleased.

wow Marcus, that’s quite a machine!

Ever considered joining our distributed computing teams? That comp and the other machines in your sig could do some serious work!

Everyone else is of course welcome as well!

PM me if anyone has any questions. Hope to see you all there.

[QUOTE=adict2jane;2559867]looking good getit :slight_smile:

LOL!!! not really any reason I guess except I just kind of hate to give Vista up for good
heck I’m still booting up XP PRO on an eSATA external enclosure every once in a while
when I’m feeling a little bit nostalgic.

I guess when the time comes to go with a SSD I will just go with Windows 7 only
so I will have TRIM support and all. :iagree:
