The problem is that the machine does not POST at all

I am in the process of “fixing” a computer.
It is a PI as far as I can tell from the motherboard. It has 64mb mem and a 20gb hard drive that I know is working. (I have put it in my machine)

The power supply does supply power as the lights come on but that is it.

The problem is that the machine does not POST at all.

I have disconnected the floppy drive (3.5), the hard drive, SCSI card, printer, comm ports. The lot but the PC refuses to POST.

I have been told to pull the CMOS battery and leave it out for a while. Then to reinsert it and try again.

Any pointers

You sure can reset the CMOS like this, but I can’t think that to be the case.

Does the PC perhaps make any beeping noises (be sure the casespeaker is connected to the mainboard)? Did you try another PSU? Doublecheck if every device is installed correct…!

It’s not the PSU, or else the system won’t even power on the lights. I think it could be dead CPU.
