The new XS0U for 32X worked great!

Burning 24 Laser at 32 which was not allowed before without any errors!

Yeah, that's pretty much all I want to say!

Good luck to all "unflashed"!

Great!
Saves me the time to test it…

I have had no problems with the new firmware but on a batch of CDRs I have it has decreased my writing speed from 32x to 16x.

the disks are FujiFilm with this
ATIP: 97m 24s 01f
Disc Manufacturer: Taiyo Yuden Company Ltd.
Reflective layer: Dye (Long strategy; e.g. Cyanine, Azo etc.)
Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
nominal Capacity: 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f / LBA: 359849)

I had burned many before at 32X using firmware XS0R and never got an error scanning with CD Speed.

Anyone know why it would slow them down?

I also noticed my buffer is now 1984k.

There is a stick post here with a link to it. CDRIdentifier is the name of the program.

So if you have flashed with new firmware XS0U Does it burn SD 2.51

Did you guys notice that with the new XS0U you can now write as low as 4x?
Guess this is quite cool for all those audio freaks, although personally I never wrote audio slower than 16x.

To all those SD questions: It still works. Furthermore, I don’t think that a firmware update can change the support / non-support of EFM repeated patterns on any writer - unless there is some mayor development undertaken to specifically do so.
This is because the EFM encoder bug, that so many writers have, and that SD2 happens to exploit, lies in the used chipset, not the firmware. In fact the firmware has nothing to do with EFM encoding.
You can easily see that exactly at the time LiteOn switched to using Mediatek chipsets (with the 16102B), the drives started to fully support SD2.
To cease support for SD2 on a non-buggy chipset, a writers firmware would have to detect those so-called “weak sectors” and intentionally destroy the data / write defective data.
Similary to support SD2 on a buggy chipset a writers firmware would need to have a built-in AWS-like algorithm.
I hope I will not see that many “does SD2 still work?” and “since update X my writer doesn’t write SD2 anymore” type BS on this board.

So all the talk about loosing the ability to backup SD 2xx games is just nonsens?

I’m currently using the xs0f firmware, should I upgrade?

#14

You don’t need to upgrade if you don’t have any specific problems.

Still no change to the SD2 compatibility (2.51.021 still works great).
