The New Plextor MTK Patched Firmware Thread *NEW*

vbimport

#1

In this thread you will find all of the latest patched firmwares for Plextor MTK drives.

Requests for patches and any issues with the patched firmware should be made in this thread but I’d prefer scans be shown in the normal scan threads, unless you want to show a problem you think is related to a patch.

Please also let me know, if you know of, or have, a later firmware than what is posted here. :flower:

Make sure you subscribe to this thread to be notified of the latest releases. You can click on this link to quickly subscribe to this thread.

FR = Fast Read (18x SL)
DL16 = Dual Layer 16x read
EOS = Enhance Over Speed (not all media will burn well at the write speeds offered)
SCR = Strategy Change Recalibrate

NOTE: Flashing a drive and flashing patched firmware is not without it’s risks. If you cannot afford to kill your drive, DO NOT flash this firmware!

Can you make a patch for the 806SA 1.12, if not already? I may have to pull out the DW205S and give it a try. Thanks CK!

Thanks CK, but I can’t seem to crossflash the DW205S (iHAS120 clone) to the Plextor firmware. The DW205S ended up being in boot mode without firmware, but flashing back with 7B3D firmware seemed to have revived the drive. Any suggestions?

That’s odd. I’ve used the earlier PX-806SA firmware in my iHAS120/220 (can’t remember which one).

Can you flash your DW205S to the patched LiteOn firmware (wondering if something is different in the boot code, but don’t try flashing the boot code, at this stage, until I can run some tests next week).

I crossflashed Asus 20B1ST@iHAS120 6 into PX-806SA. Used FlashUtility4.0.0, EepromUtility6.0.0 and 1.16 stock fw. The drive is in External Enclosure AgeStar SUB5A1, USB.2.0. OS - Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit.

20B1ST@iHAS120 6@PX-806SA, stock 1.16
Tried to flash the drive with PX-806SA.1.16.patched-fr-eos-scr, but failed. Had to revive the drive in DOS with XSF. Hope C0deKing will clarify the issue. Thnx.

Flashing 205S => iHAS120 is good, but flashing iHAS120 => 806SA fails and put 205S into boot mode (something like 0B35); flashing with 7B3D firmware is fine. This was all done with Flash Utility 4.0.0, didn’t have to use EEPROM utility to revive 205S.

#9

Thanks guys. I’ve removed the PX-806SA firmware until I can do some testing next week.

Found the problem with the PX-806SA patched firmware. Sorry for any inconvenience. I’ll release the new version soon.

Tested it this time in my iHAS220. SCR adds to the burn time but hopefully the resulting burn quality will be worth it:

New PX-806SA 1.16 patched firmware released.

This firmware suffers from the 12x burning bug. IMO, PX-806SA owners would actually be better off flashing to iHAS120/220 7LC2/8LC2 firmware.

I just got a Plextor 880SA-26, my other Plextor 880SA’s are -28’s; they do not show an asterisk in the flash utility - and they cannot be flashed with any of the patched FW or LiteOn FW - so the Plextor 880SA-26 worked very well; I used IC1-B w/all options.

Here is a comparison between stock 1.12 FW and the patched FW.

Plextor 880SA stock 1.12
Verbatim 16X DVD+R @ 12x MCC 004

Plextor 880SA patched SB/OS on
Verbatim 16x @ 12x same video

Interesting! Would you be kind enough to run some tests for me on the -28 drive?

Here is some more scans comparing Plextor 880SA stock 1.12 and patched FW - these runs are on DVD+r dl media - MKM 003 (MIS) @ 8x.

1.12 stock:

IC1-B patched FW:
SB on/ OS off

What a pity, it looks like a big improvement, except for that flaw. However, probably just a bad disc, do you think?

Give me a few days - I’ll run it again - but I think it’s not the media, probably it’s just that media learning is new ?? We’ll see…:flower::flower:

Verbatim MCC003 are good media esp MIS - as you know - they are 5 mos old too.

How’s the newest flash utility coming? Need any additional folks testing it at its current place in development?

#18

Do you have a patch for the PX-880SA 1.13 or can you make it? Thanky CK!
