Ok, i need some help here guys cause this is really getting to me.
I had a perfectly working laptop with a 160gb hatachi travelstar 5k160 sata drive in it. It was working fine, had it for months and had vista on it. Now i went to reinstall vista last night, so i decided to be a smart ass and use v-lite to cut down the vista installation size and then put these files on an external 80gb usb drive thinking installing vista from an external would be much faster than from a dvd.
I reboot, boot off the external and i get to the part in the setup where it detects my hard drives....except it only detects my external and my actual 160gb drive isn't there at all. So i rebooted and i get a "disk read error, press ctrl+alt+delete" in a dos window. My bios doesn't recognise my drive now either. I put the 160gb into the external enclosure, and through partition magic manage to find 1 partition of 73GB on it, but the rest of the space is nowhere to be seen and i mean nowhere. Bios even says its 73GB. Fdisk shows 73GB.
Anybody know where the hell the rest of the drive is? I thought it could maybe be dead, or maybe one of the platters is dead, that posible? But why would it happen just when i rebooted to reinstall vista?
