I wanted to start this off with a hello to every1, as this is my first post.
I've been reading these forums for a long time and never really had anything to bring to the table so I never bothered registering but now the time has come for me to come forth with my own personal finding on this matter at hand, the bitsetting debackle. I was reading this alot of stuff, not only here but on google and pretty much any other forum I could find, regarding the bitsetting / booktype changing procedures. The first thing I discovered is the only way to use nero to do this is if u have the bundled 188.8.131.52 version that came with some of the btc drives. I have a polaroid ide1004 and a emprex ide1004 and I know for a fact the emprex did not even come with nero and if my polaroid did I cant seem to find it. My polaroid died after a firmware flash wont read the dvd discs burned or otherwise but when I insert one it knows how much space it is taking up, but that is a diffrent story entirely. So I could not find this version of nero ANYWHERE I looked all over the web and the only ones I could find were 184.108.40.206 and then it would jump to 220.127.116.11. So I went to teh next solution being the bitsetting tool version 1.05, mind you im using the new 50 firmware so I know thats all good. Almost everything I read tells me that I need to start nero and then get start the bitsetting tool and then keep the bitsetting open cause nero will change it automaticalley, it also says this in terms of the dvdinfotool. Well when the bitsetting util is open it takes total control of the drive aswell does nero when it is about to burn so when u try and keep the bitsetting util open it wont recognize the drive. Im reading and reading and even the readme of dvdinfotool says that nero will take over control and make it DVD+R instead of DVD-ROM. Well after about 6 hours of google madness, I get pretty fed up with the whole thing thinking that I must be doing something wrong. Well I try something I found in like 1 post somewhere saying all you hafta do is start the bitsetting util set it to dvd-rom and then exit it and use nero as usual. Well low and behold I do what it says and voila it works just fine. so to make a long story short.
Im using the newest nero as of this writing, and im using the bitsetting tool version 1.05 and my drive is firmware v050, on a Ide1004 Emprex / BTC drive. Using DVD+R Media, Memorex.
- Boot windows and start bitsetting tool.
- Change to DVD-ROM booktype and exit the util.
- Launch nero as usual (Using 18.104.22.168 newest)
- Add files , VOB's etc, and burn as usual.
- Your all done allready.
This routine worked great for me and im sure all the other folks that have been told they need to leave the bitsetting tool open during nero and havent been able to get it working will also find this to be enlightening. Hope this helps every1, since it seemed from my reading that alot of people were very confused as to how to properly do this, and on the same note alot of people were giving, hazy yet somehow incorrect methods.
Thanks to every1 here for all the great info, I never would of got as far as I did without it.
