I just posted the article The battle of the tablets: iPad vs Archos 9.

Tablets are the most recent hype in the world of electronics, and many prototypes have been introduced and reviewed, but the one everyone was really waiting for was the tablet developed by Apple. On February 27, 2010, Apple finally introduced it: the iPad. The expectations were high but the response after the introduction was tepid and many people were disappointed.

It is somewhat disappointing that a crippled product is winninng just because of the marketing. Are customers really that stupid?

Some stuff to fix:

On February 27, 2010, Apple finally introduced it:
Time Machine anyone

It has an Apple designed A4 1GhZ chip
GHz would be correct

I like the idea of a portable pc that weighs less than 2 pounds, I currently have the ITouch 2nd Gen and don’t plan on upgrading to the Ipad, what a weird name for such device.

I been using Archos for a long time and they produce great stuff. Most there screens are amazing HD.

Personally win7 is fine but i would slap winXP or Linux on that baby. I like having the side button unlike all the new apple stuff having 1 button wth is with that?

Besides the Ipad is so limited compared to the Archos is just a hand held computer so much more you can do with it.

ROTFLMAO.
Are you serious? How do you account for the last 10years of ipod/iphone sales?
Even after this -> http://www.ipodsdirtysecret.com/

WTF? That site requires QuickTime. Makes no sense to me, an iPod Basher using a proprietary Apple format for their film? #&$#&%^R&(^&*((%!!! Here’s the Apple-less version

Still I don’t believe the Archos 9 being an alternative for the iPad - the products differ too much.

Tablet, schmablet… for $550 you can tote around a NICE multicore laptop-- touchscreen be damned. For $200-$350… you might convert some netbook fans into the tablet market… but north of $500 you are firmly in LAPTOP price land.

Wow, have you ever tried the Archos 9? This is like comparing movies without ever seeing them.

No, but haven’t tried the iPad either, did you? This article is just based on the specs of the products and some user experience I read on several sites. I tried to put the hype around the iPad into perspective, but ofcourse it would be better if I had tried them both. I wouldn’t mind

The iPad is great, but it’s an iPod just a big version of it. I have tried both the iPad and Archos 9. The archos 9 is a little slower but, i like what i can do with it. The price point is a lot better then the iPad.

Right now the best price i can find on the archos 9 is $450 at SIG Electronics. Where the cheapest iPad is $550. $100 cheaper and more storage.

I would recommend the Archos 9.

People that get an iPad aren’t looking for serious computer power IMO. Just some little slick device to use around the house/coffee shop to play on facebook and check their email.
