The DV-W5600S uses a Renesas (2010) MC 10131 chip. It looks, sounds, and acts just like an Optiarc AD-72xx drive.

Just looking at the burn graphs, the WOPC pattern seems different - more aggressive, especially at the edges of the disc. Weird, considering even the iHASx24 W drives used the same general WOPC pattern as the 7200/7240/7260/7280; why change it now for TEAC, I wonder.

With a 1MB buffer & Renesas MC10131 it should be an AD-7280S.

Are you able to dump the firmware with Binflash?

I tried, but Binflash would not recognize the drive.

What is the manufacturing date and full model name on the label? DV-W5600S-300 or -400?

I’ve seen 2013 drive DV-W5600S-400 and it was full hardware clone of iHAS124 W.

Also, there is DV-W5500S which is a full clone of earlier AD-7280S (with SF-DS1XD pickup)

Here is info about “iHAS124 W” version of this drive: http://teac-ipd.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/9188b_DVW5600S_300_400.pdf

Notice the pickup model “LO-DWH02” in the datasheet - this pickup is used in both iHAS124 W and iHAS124 E.

Could you please look what pickup does your drive use? DS1XD or DS1X1?

DV-W5600S-300, June 2013. I’ll get back later with the pickup.

blackened2687 - Does this help?

Pickup is the same as in iHAS124 W

And the cover is seems the same as iHAS124 W / DRW-24B1ST i!

But still uses old chipset??? Could you please add more photos of the drive covers and internals and also to make a photo of both sides of the board?

I think we will need Liggy’s help to figure it out…

Reminds me of those peculiar Benq OEM drives which appeared a long time after Benq stopped production.

A member spotted them on sale in India and posted a photo. They had physical characteristics of both the DW1640 and DW1650, and a few other things which didn’t make sense.

The conclusion was that a new production run had been commissioned, using a different factory, to use up the leftover Benq ODD parts.

Unique drive! O_O Something BETWEEN AD-7280S and iHAS124 W - old chipset, but completely new board looking like the one found in iHAS120 X / iHAS124 W - even the inscription says “DV-W5600S”. I will rather remove that drive from my LiteOn and Optiarc tables, because I’m now unsure that the drive I’ve seen was a full iHAS124 W clone - it was installed on one of our customers’ computer and I’ve checked only drive covers and pickup, but I haven’t looked at opposite side of the board, because I’ve never thought that this thing could have ANOTHER chipset than iHAS124 W. It seems I was too fast in my decisions. Damn, why haven’t I tried to dump the firmware with Binflash? That will be a good lesson for me.

I want to catch this little monster now and test it personally. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you very much, Jadburner.

You’re welcome, blackened2687. Thanks for your insights on this drive.
