I don’t know if this is the right forum, but I’m pretty sure that if it isn’t, someone will post it in the right one. And I am deeply sorry if it isn’t. I have the NEC2500 with the DLFW and I am loving every minute of it. It solved my buffer-underun problems also. But I have a question about my forgotten drive, my internal TDK420N. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, but I’m in love with the NEC. Is there any fw that will maybe unlock some rip/read speeds, or bump it up to 8Xs? I just don’t want it sitting around here not doing anything. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice. And once again, sorry if this is the wrong thread.

Look at this link:

It lists the TDK 420n as an OEM NEC-1100A. Basically, what this means is you can turn the drive into a NEC 1100A via a dos based flasher. If you do some searching on the forums you should be pretty much good to go.

You can find a lot of different firmwares for the drive here:

The TDK 420n can also be upgraded to the dual format NEC 1300A!
Flash in DOS with a 1300 firmware that includes the 1100@1300 patch fix.
