I recently purchased a bunch of Taiyo Yuden high speed discs and they mention that certain drives do not comply with the new DVD-R specifications for 8x writing so they need to be upgraded… any way to find out if your drive definitely supports this?
It might be easier if you tell us the brand and model of your DVD burner or recorder.
I have the DVD±RW DW-D56A and the NEC DVD±RW ND-6500A
If your drive was made in the last two years or so, you won’t have anything to worry about. I’m pretty sure it only affects old 4x writers and lower that have no support for 8x discs.
Best test to see if they work = use them and see what happens
I’d be surprised if you encountered problems.
I have the DVD±RW DW-D56A and the NEC DVD±RW ND-6500A
Both of these drives support writing to 8x DVD±R media.
I haven’t investigated whether they also support 16x DVD±R media.
Oh. Thanks for the responses cd pirate and DrageMester. For some reason I thought these discs needed a new 8x writing method to work properly.
