One of my most bizzare media purchases, these were listed as 16x AZO discs so I expected MIT MCC 03RG20. I got TYG02 :confused: Decided to keep them anyway.

Plextor PX-716A (fw 1.11), written at 2x.

Sold as “That’s 2x DVD-R, DVD Recordable Disc for Data” (DR47D-TP, 5pk jewel cased)
MID: TAIYOYUDEN
Reflective Layer: Silver
Stamper: GB000137 0302
Hub: 6B313B01216GA
Made in Japan

Haven’t seen scans of this MID on CDFreaks before (or anywhere else). Writing a DVD at 2x isn’t as bad as one might imagine - it took about the same time as a BD-R at 4x.

The excellent jitter suggests the drive had a good strategy for this media. Autostrategy doesn’t support 2x DVD-R, but this MID is listed as supported on Plextor’s comprehensive PX-760 media list (no PX-716 list is available, but I was too tired to get my PX-755 out).

Next time I’ll try a Benq, which only support this MID at 4x!

The Benq didn’t seem to like this disc as much as the Lite-On. (TRT perfect.)
