Taiyo Yuden CD-R 700MB PRISM GOLD?

Hello

does anybody has experience with this media. It is “advertised” as AAA Grade or highest grade media. Since it is more expensive than the “normal” TY CD-R I’d like to know if the media is as good as the media sellers write?

Link to a english website:
http://www.magellanhardware.com/productdetail.asp?qrynm=QryListLvProducts&SerID=29|101&productid=685
Or google with: “Taiyo Yuden Prism Gold”

Since 100 TY Prism Gold cost ~40EUR and 100 “normal” TYs are ~30EUR I ask myself if the advertised better quality is it worth?

Thanks for your replies…

I guess it’s just sme nice colors on top. :frowning:

Why on earth list it as ‘Z Grade’? Or is it some sort of joke?

same like this one below link
I know this is Maxell brand but TY CD-R ( just name for printable surface ??? )http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/382410-REG/Maxell_648730_CD_R_700MB_Gold_Thermal.html

I ordered the followed media last week, and since a few days I have it:

10x CD-R Taiyo Yuden 700MB Prism GOLD plus (Prism gold)
10x CD-R 700MB Taiyo Yuden AUDIO (1x-32x Speed) CDR-A80ZZ100SK
10x CD-R Taiyo Yuden 700MB Prism SILVER / Shiny Silver (Prism shiny plus) CDR80ZZ100SK, CDRTY80BS

By the way here is a list of TY media of TY Europe: http://www.taiyo-yuden.com/media/index_media.html

The ATIP of the “prism gold” media and the “shiny silver” media are identical. The top of the “prism gold” is as expected gold or looks like gold. Looks cool  , but I do not want cool media I want good media.

Currently I did not make any burn test since my Plextor Premium II was exchanged yesterday. today I have to build in the new drive and than I can do tests. I’ll post the tests in the Plextor Premium thread (http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=222416)

10x CD-R Taiyo Yuden 700MB Prism GOLD plus (Prism gold)
10x CD-R 700MB Taiyo Yuden AUDIO (1x-32x Speed) CDR-A80ZZ100SK
10x CD-R Taiyo Yuden 700MB Prism SILVER / Shiny Silver (Prism shiny plus) CDR80ZZ100SK, CDRTY80BS

I have the media above now. Here a scan of the media:
TY Audio
TY Prism Gold
TY Shiny silver

The Prism Gold media has a transparent yellow paint on the label site. I guess it is for thermo transfer printers perfect. The ATIP of the PRism Gold and shiny silver media is identical.

th_mi i think it’s pretty much like the regular TY and just for marketing from the scans i have seen.

Yes it seems like the quality is not a better grade or something like that. The label surface looks like the transparent yellow paint is special for thermotransfer printers. I read this in the descriptions of the shops offering the Prism Gold.
For burn quality reasons it it not necessary to buy the Prism Gold, maybe if thermotransfer printing is interesing. But currently I do not have a thermotransfer printer…

yeah that has to be why the higher price.

I have no experience with thermal printing but i ran a printing press, foil press, embossing, and thermography (raised lettering) for many years

I’ll buy a thermal printer for CD/DVD, ince it is not such expensive ~50-80EUR. But I have a thermal printer for my hobby (I’m also model builder) and for makein water slide decals my OKI DP 5000 is perfect, since it prints also white, silver and gold. Since this printers are not manufactured anymore it is more worth than gold. In the US the same printer was available from ALPS.

I see you have a name change
