Swiss High Court rules against collecting P2P IP addresses



The Swiss High Court has ruled that IP addresses are personal information and as such, are protected by the very strict privacy laws found in Switzerland. The Swiss federal data protection and information commissioner brought the suit against Logistep, one of the companies that compiles data on P2P use and provides evidence for lawsuits against file sharers. This ruling should hamstring Logistep’s core business, and the company is already hinting they will leave Switzerland.
