Could someone pls tell me where I can find a list with the mediacodes for this piece of hardware?
I bought 100 dvd’s last weekend which are not recognised and therefor useless.
To prevent myself from buying crap again, I’d like to know where you can find a list or what programs shows them.
The burner is a ‘Lite-on SHW-1635s’ running the latest firmware.
Thnx in advance!

What is the media code of the DVDs you bought. Nero’s CD-DVD Speed will give you this under Disc Info.
What do you consider the latest firmware - it should be YS0W.

Here is a listing of what’s in it.

It is YS0W
And my Nero CD-DVD speed tells me that the mediacode of the non-working disc is OPTODISC OR8 (000) with 6X-8X write speeds.
Now this one is listed in your list. So what am I doing wrong?
If I choose to burn a disc with Nero (movie) then it gives no errors. But the burning takes like 70-80 minutes (8X speed chosen) and afterwards, the disc is unplayable on either the pc and a stand-alone dvdplayer.

I can only suspect that the media is so bad that the burner is forced to slow down the burn speed.

Have you turned on/off Smartburn using the latest Smartburn from Liteon?

You might want to do a Disc Quality scan in CD-DVD Speed. I bet it’ll be appalling.

You might also do a Transfer Rate Test.

No I haven’t, but I’ve just completed the first disc… It took 16 minutes and it’s the first one that actually played on my dvdplayer.
But I’m sick and tired of these crappy discs, so I’m going to buy new ones.
Do you know if these discs are good?

These are the results of the quality test. Doesn’t look too bad I think.
But where or how can I disable that smartburn option ?

Very good burn, I’m most surprised.

Get Smartburn from here .

And the latest firmware YS0X from here .

These Liteons actually learn about the media and generally improve the burn after 3-5 attempts. Could be what’s happening here.

Go for Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden media , it’s not really worth buying much else.
