i want to buy a dvd rom drive. please suggest a good dvd rom drive.

#2

Aopen 1648/AAP Pro

#3

jimmyplexed, dvd rom prices are very close to dvd burner prices, only 20 bucks less, why buy dvd rom?

#4

to rip that is why. so that it will put less wear and tear on my benq. i will rip with dvd rom and burn with benq.
how is this one - Asus DVD-E616P2 16X DVD-ROM / 48X CD-ROM Drive - selling for around 31 dollars.
is this a good one?

#5

Buy another BenQ…

#6

if the main purpose of your DVD rom drive is ripping then there is nothing that comes close to the Aopen 1648/AAP for fast ripping.

#7

of course nothing comes close to the benq when it come to reading old scratched/trashed mis-handled media… speed is not everything.

#8

place to buy it online?

#9

newegg

that’s a valid point. personally I dont have to many scratched or mishandled disks but the one or two I have gotten from friends I havnt had any problem with the Aopen reading them and if I did then I can just stick them in the BenQ 1620 I burn with. so either way I have the best of both worlds, fast ripping and great reading.

jimmyplexd,

newegg has the best prices and at 24.99 the Aopen is 45.00 less than buying another BenQ.

#11

outta stock…

#12

but i thought benq can’t rip some copyprotected dvds? no?

#13

not true.

#14

get a liteon dvdrom that can rip at fast speeds…although i did have a scratched disc that my benq 1620 could not read it but my ole trusty plextor 708a drive could!

I went for the AOpen 1648 to go with my LiteOn 165.

#16

aopen been out of stock for long time from newegg. the black one.

#17

As far as a ripping drive I love my Samsung TS-H492A. Up to 16x on pressed DVD’s and it absolutely flies. Does well on burnt media also as far as a reader. Great thing is it is also a great CD-Burner.

#18

Mine is the “Chameleon” model.

It comes with 3 bezels - Black, Ivory and Silver.

#19

I don’t think anymore. They have all the AOpen drives except the “AOpen Beige 52X32X52X16X Combo Drive, Model COM5232/AAP, OEM Bulk” drive. I don’t think that’s the one you want anyhow…

Do any of the DVD-ROMs mentioned here rip +/-R media at 16x like the NEC 35xx can?
