Suddenly cds won't burn anymore

all of a sudden nero started giving error messages after 4%

nothing was changed in the configuration really
i tried uninstalling easy cd creator (including removing the lowerfilter and upperfilter values from the registry, which at least led to the drive not freezing anymore and nero ejecting the cd)
