Suddenly Can't Read 4x dvds (DVR-106d)

Hello, I have a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-106d that came with my Sony Vaio that I purchased a few years ago. A few months ago I bought some 4x Memorex DVD+R discs. I tried them and they worked fine. Now, out of the blue, one of the dvds I made could not be played on the same drive I used to make it. It works fine when I play it on my standalone dvd player though. All other, non-4x dvds work fine.

I sucessfully updated my firmware through sony’s site, but it did not fix the problem. I believe I now have firmware version 1.10. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I just realized that this problem started after I upgraded to Service Pack 2 (I believe). That’s the only system change I can think of…

Memorex are some kind of crap.
I’d use better discs.

I have the same error, did you manage to find a solution to this?
I also think this issue appeared when SP2 was released.

I actually bought a new dvd drive and all is well.

Same problem too–What did you buy to replace the Pioneer DVR-106d?

For Forum Members to be able to provide meaning assistance you need to provide more pertinent information.

What is the version number of the Firmware installed on your Pioneer DVR-106 DVD Burner and what is the MID (Manufacture ID and Media Code) of your blank DVD Media?

Using a software program similar to DVD Identifier (http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com) or DVDInfo (http://www.dvdinfopro.com) will provide the DVD Burner Firmware version number and MID of your blank DVD Media.

They are 2x rated DVD-RW media and a misprint, so it seems.
Not 4x.
