Successfully writes DVD but not CDs

I am facing a very strange problem with my Samsung DVD-RW.

I am able to burn DVDs correctly but I am not able to burn CDs. Though initially I was able to burn both CDs & DVDs.

But suddenly during burn process of CD after the writing process is complete and it is about the make the CD ready for reading it displays message: The CD does not seem to be formatted/write error. (something of this sort)

Any idea if this could be a hardware problem or software/setting problem?

Reads CD correctly
Reads DVD correctly
Writes DVD correctly

OS: Windows XP
Burn Process: Windows drag & drop
Nero

Thanks,
Hasnain

Skip that:

Burn Process: Windows drag & drop

Use a proper burning app like Imgburn.

I tried using Imgburn but still unable to write CDs. Gives following alert message:

Interpretation: Check Condition
Interpretation: Write (10) - Sectors: 544 - 575
Interpretation: Write Error

I am still able to write the DVDs using Nero.

Anything got to do with windows settings?

Hi and Welcome!

from your report it is not possible to tell if there is something wrong with your drive or with your Windows installation.

If there is a second drive (CD- or DVD-ROM) installed in your system, you might try with a Knoppix CD. This would clearly rule out Windows issues.
The other way would be to try the drive in another computer if possible.

You might also check the “upper and lower filters”, just follow the link in chef’s signature. In addition, uninstall any virtual drive software like Alcohol or Daemon Tools for troubleshooting (if present at all).

Michael

Try clicking “my computer” then right click on the drive in question then click properties then click recording then enable cd recording on this drive. I hope this helps.

I doubt this, since even ImgBurn fails.

What is the cd media youare using?

Nero cd dvd speed would tell you the MID, post it here please.

I hope by MID you mean Manufacturer ID. It is: Prodisc (97m32s19f)

Please lower the speed to 40x, then try again.

I 21:11:14 Write Speed: MAX

40x is the max speed. So I tried with 24x and it was able to burn.

But the contents are not visible when I am trying to read.
