Stupid MSI burner

i have that crap. i bought it from some asian guy’s at the LA computer fair. assholes! it’s been giving me shit for 8 months now.

my ass, everything there is fake, i when i was on the firmware it came with it was going to 34% and messing up on some iso’s and shit, barely ever burned somthing. i upgraded that also. and i got some aspi drivers, then it went to 34% in like 40 seconds or somthing, then took 3 minutes to go to 35 3 mintes 36 3 minutes for every other percent until 43 is where i stopped it.

just curious, i didn’t have aspi drivers installed on my comp, i run winxp sp1, is taht fine? i mean some things were burning, i even had my friends check their comps and they have reliable stuff with no aspi, does it matter? i have downloaded the latest adaptec aspi from their site.

anybody have a clue on what is wrong? last night i ordered that liteon 48x one cause i was so pissed, i dont care about overclocking or whatever you call to 52x i just want a RELIABLE burner, what could be wrong with my MSI crap?

first error with nero. i thought i had latest aspi drivers, but i accidently overwrote with old ones

i think i read somewhere on the yamaha page when i was looking at my 16x burner’s firmware which is on my bro’s comp, and it said it’s bad to have 1 device on an ide channel be dma off if the other is on, so i went to dma if avail, and now it’s showing
Multi-Word DMA Mode 2 on it.

NeroInfoTool is showing Dma Mode on both now.

i havn’t tested another cd but it probably stil wont work since i have nothing to do with the cdrom drive.

my current set up is
2.4ghz p4
Intel EBG2 board which is 845D chipset
1 gb ddr ram 2100 or 2700, i forgot.
C: i think it’s 60 gigs, well it’s 6 gigs partitioned to 2 drive, cause windows is so safe, hehe
C: 6gb D: 54 or somthing
E: burner
F: cdrom
G: 80gig
H: and I: are 80 gig drive, i have to repartition

master channel
1: 60gig drive
2: 80 gig drive
second channel
1: burner
2: cdrom

i also have an Ultra 133Tx2 card for my other 80 gig drive, has 1 plugged in currently. which is H: and I:

what would be the best thing to do about the set up? move the drives to where and what?

what else am i missing here. hmm…

current firmware is v.rw
stupid msi burner.

i tried burning at 24x yesterday and at 100% writing lead out i opened explorer and the damn thing just locked up, not the comp, but everything else, i could still talk but no nero and stuff.

when i run hd_speed i get about 22mb/s

not sure if that’s fast or slow for my drives, they’re all 7200rpm’s

how fast are you guys and how fast are you able to burn? i just have massive problems at 40x but it get’s to 100% with 24x.

succesful burn at 24x, but im sure i’ll get errors if i try other things, im going to give 40x a shot, any info people?
btw sorry for the big ass logs.

still does not explain why 40x does not work. and get trivial errors.

well sorry about the lame and excessive posts, i’ve burned 4 more things at 40x, another iso and a 16 song album, is it normal to have the 16 song album take exactly 8 minutes 24 seconds? it was in mp3 format, and i just dragged it over. at 40x. not sure what i did to fix this, but i’ll be giving the burner more tests.

I must say that the level of language in these posts is up to $hit.

But at any rate, I’ll explain a few things.

First of all, Windows XP has imapi burning services builtin to the OS. This is a CDR/W writing software builtin to the OS and has been known to cause problems.

Secondly, all the newer programs like Nero/CloneCD don’t use the aspi layer anymore, so the actual aspi layer doesn’t need to be installed anymore.

CDRWIN does however use the syustem aspi layer if requested. But it also comes with it’s own access methods now. I suggest you use these, as the aspi layer often becomes corrupted since so many programs use it and mess with it(read windows).

Acer/Aopen/Benq technology drives have always been quite good, and if you can’t get it to work then it suggest either of three things, with the most common problems first.

  1. You have no idea what you are doing and are treading water as vigorously as possible to keep you head above water.
    Solution: Luckily, you’ve come to cdfreaks so we can help you.

2)The media you are using is crap, and is not compatible with the burner. Some burners are just plain picky.I found this with the Aopen 24x drives (rebadged ricoh)
Solution: don’t use cheap and nasty media like those free(after rebates) cd’s.

  1. The burner is defective. Highly unlikely, usually about 1 in 500 is defective.
    solution: Return the burner, however, after 9 months it’s gonna be interesting to see how you go, especially if it works OK at the shop. More likely they will suggest that they can send it back to the factory for repairs.
