I wonder if anyone can help.
I recently built a new htpc and part of the spec. was a WinTV Card.
I elected for this card;
AVerMedia AVerTV Combo PCIe ATSC/NTSC/QAM TV Tuner Card (White Box)w/L-P Bracket 7 95522 96058 0 PCI-Express x1 Interface
after being disuaded from gtom Hauppage range.
Now I find myself wondering if there was any point.
I have both a HDTV Cable feed from Rogers (cable provider in Canada). That is essentially a coax feed to their receiver and from there I can do HDMI or component output to my TV. There is also a co-ax output - not sure if that will carry HD content..
In addition, I have an FTA satellite receiver, picking up Standard-def programming (I may upgrade to an HD box in the future, but not right now). The box has satellite co-ax input, and RGB/RCA outputs.
On the TV Card itself there are two co-ax type inputs one is for analog and the other for Digital.
I have a couple of questions;
Can I utilize this card to receive BOTH cable AND satellite feeds - if so, which feed is what? I assume the satellite feed would be analog, but I really don't now.
Can I use the card tuner? I see no way of selecting a satellite/cable channel without selecting it on the respective set-top box. I can certainly scan the first 60 or so cable channels transmitted down the co-ax which don't require the HD set-top box, but I want all of my cable programming to be accessible to a 'PVR', which means 61+ - HD channels, etc.
Or am I simply going to have to continue with the cable remote/satellite remotes in hand.
I have read a couple of threads that recommend NOT loading the Aver drivers/tuner software (oops). What should I be using instead?
This build was essentially a htpc machine which also had an HD 'PVR' ability.... I'm not really sure how that can be accommodated.
Any ideas, suggestions would be greatly welcomed.
