Strange burning problem

When I go to copy a DVD with DVDFab 6, it appears to copy fine with no errors. When I tried to play the backed up DVD, no DVD player will play it.

If I then re-burn the video files from the DVDFab temp directory using Nero 8, the DVD works fine.

I have tried using the built in burning engine, Nero & ImgBurn and the same thing happens. I have looked into all my settings, and cannot see anything wrong.

I am open to any suggestions of how to fix this, please help.

Posting a burn log could help.

Ok.
Thanks for sending us that, but it’s not what we really need…what you sent was the info part of the log, generated every time you start DVDFab…what we were hoping to see was the Fab log of the actual burn with either the VSO engine or the Imgburn log… the ones that won’t play.

But maybe you can tell us, without the log, the info we’re looking for:

1.) was the blank media single layer or dual layer?

2.) what is the media I.D.?

3.) If the media was +R, for the burn, was the Book Type set as DVD-ROM?

That info is in the log, and if you don’t know it, that’s where you can find it.

Plese advise.

I have taken what you sent in, and isolated the part of the info we would normally look for. Only problem is, this is from your Nero 8 burn, which you say works on your DVD player. It tells us nil about the burns with the VSO engine & Imgburn.

C:/Docs & Setgs/User Name/My Documents/DVDFab/Log is where the VSO log is kept. The file is a rather large text file, and the first half of it is very similar to the first log you sent.

Please scroll down 'til you get to an actual burn log, try and isolate the one that represents a failed attempt (one that won’t play) hilight it, move it to your clipboard, and then just send us the hilighted part from a burn that didn’t work, so we can try to figure out what went wrong.

At least, if you used the same media with the VSO and Imgburn attempts, we know that your media isn’t the problem.

Please advise.

This burner dates back to 2004.
Your firmware is from 2005.
It’s old and it’s having a problem with today’s media.

Thanks for the response, but that is not my problem. I used the Pioneer as it is rock solid. I also have several LG drives and a brand new Liteon drive and the same problem persists.

I can burn XBOX 360 games with the Pioneer, believe me, it is not the problem.

Any other thoughts?

Thank you for your feedback.

Based on the info you have submitted so far, you apparently have successful burns using your Pioneer drive with Nero 8, and any burns done with either VSO or Imgburn using your LG GSA H62N CL01 have failed to play on DVD machines.

To complete this picture, can you please submit a log from a failed burn using your Pioneer drive and VSO and/or Imgburn, and a successful burn using Nero 8 and your LG drive?

At this point, I think Dialysis1’s assessment is correct.

Thanks for the reply, you have picked up the wrong end of the stick though.

All of my DVD drives burn fine when just using Nero, but none of them work when I am using DVDFab to burn (Nero, ImgBurn, VSO)

I have 1 Pioneer, 2 LG drives (about 6-18 months old) and 1 brand new Liteon drive. I have tried all of them on this computer and all have the same issue. I use Verbatim DVD-R discs.

The LG and Pioneer in combination had worked with DVDFab flawlessly for 9 months or so. In the last month, I started having these problems.

Using a different drive is the first thing I tried, this is not the problem.

Another strange thing I have noticed, if I take one of the burns that doesn’t work in the DVD player and decrypt it to the hdd, then burn it using Nero, it plays fine in the DVD Player.

I am just about to do a copy using DVDFab and ImgBurn as requested, but I cannot give you a successful burn log because it does not work when using DVDFab with any drive I try.

The proof is in the pudding…As OCanada stated, we need to see logs for,
"a failed burn using your Pioneer drive and VSO and/or Imgburn, and a successful burn using Nero 8 and your LG drive?

If, for one reason or another, you are unable to comply with tOnee1’s request, there is a simpler solution.

Nero is one of three burners allowed for in DVDFab’s settings.

Simply switch over and use that burner program, as it’s giving you consistently good results with the media you’re using.

Hey OCanada, I believe the OP has already tried that, so they claim…

By G O S H - I think you’re right.

Must have been been having another dyslexic episode.

OK…try this. Open Imgburn. Under ‘Tools’, go to ‘Filter Driver Load Order’, and let us know the contents of that.

Not sure why I’m looking for that, as if Nero works by itself, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t work with Fab.

Have you tried running Imgburn by itself, after a Fab rip, to see if it works solo?

P.S. What did you do to your system about a month ago? That’s when you said the problems started… your system didn’t just suddenly sit up, all by itself, and say: “I’m not going to accept Fab output anymore!” - something had to have been added/deleted/altered that changed the status quo…

I don’t know what country you’re from, but if it’s here in North America, the television system here is NTSC…

What makes you sure your DVD Player /Television-Monitor can handle PAL system broadcasts?

I may have the reason DVDFab/VSO/Imgburn don’t work for you.

Comments?

In Australia the television system is PAL.

Ok you are using the correct blank media Verbatim now here is a link on how to set up DVDfab to work with ImgBurn http://www.youtube.com/user/dvdfabtroy.
It is a youtube video made by a fellow cdfreaks member and I hope this might fix your burn issue also lower the burn speed to like 12x

Thanks for the video GJ. It has fixed my problem, or so it seems so far (don’t want to jinx it).

For clarity, the thing that fixed it was reducing the speed of the burn. I had set it to burn at 8x in the DVDFab write options, but it seems it was not passing this through to ImgBurn.

Using the video tutorial, I was able to set the speed in ImgBurn and since then 2 successful burns.

Thanks all the people who helped me  and thanks GJ for the video.
