Spotting TY/Mitsui DVD media?

I know that one of the telltale signs of TY CDRs is that the package is labelled made in Japan. It seems to hold true some of the time for CDRs.

However, does the same hold true for DVD media? I’ve got a Maxell 10pk of 2x DVD-Rs labelled Made In Japan. I have a Sony drive so I can’t use that KProbe to test one.

If anyone knows or can find out, that’d be cool. I don’t know where to start looking.

Hi, and welcome to our forum!

The easiest way to find out since you already have the discs: download dvdinfopro from

It will tell you the manufacturer of the discs.

All TY DVD±R discs is made in Japan. I’m not sure but maxell do probably also have a factory in Japan. At least I’ve a maxell DVD-RAM disc here which is made by maxell in Japan, so there is a big chance that they also manufactures DVD-R discs there.

But why not give dvdinfopro a try and find out for sure?

Thanks

Welp, since I posted the question and the info was given for me to acquire the answer… for the benefit of other wonderers…

Yes, but I doubt that the infinti discs says “made in Japan”?

Many low quality china brands is identified as maxell as well.

So just look for “made in Japan”

I’m wondering, do TY DVD’s also have a frosted ring like their CD’s?

No, there is no frosted ring on TY DVD media.
