just a general hardware question...... When decrypting and then using a program such as Shrink to encode a dvd, would increasing my RAM from 256mb to 512Mb speed up this part of the process??????
Please don't dump threads and as for your question you may/may not.It depends on whether your computer starts to swap or not while converting.Minimize the task manager and look at it while your transcoding, if it's above 256Mb then you could boost dvdshink's performance by adding more ram but most of time it'll benefit a lot more by a faster cpu.//Danne
In my case having even 512mb Ram aint enough, due to the swapping. As DiiZzy said, if there's no swapping, a faster cpu will get you more. Eitherwise getting more Ram will definetely give you a perfomance boost.
what do you mean by the term "swapping"????
Swapping is used when you don't have enough RAM and so some of the information that is being held there is copied to the hard-disk. This is much much slower than leaving it all in RAM.
how can i tell if my computer is swapping or not????
